 The Daytona Beach area is well known for its 23 miles of sparkling, white-sandy beaches that span from Ormond-by-the-Sea to the quaint fishing village of Ponce Inlet. At low tide, area beaches can expand up to 500 feet wide and are conducive to sandcastle building, cycling, jogging, fishing or just relaxing in the sun. The area's mild climate, which boasts an average annual air temperature of 70.3 degrees (21 degrees Celsius), allows families on vacation to enjoy boating, diving, surfing, jet skiing and other watersports and beach activities throughout the year.
The area’s largest sporting event, the Daytona 500, received two awards -- Best Annual Sporting Event and Best Motorsport Event for the second year in a row. Held annually in February at Daytona International Speedway, the Daytona 500 is considered the Super Bowl of motorsports and showcases NASCAR's most talented drivers.
Families vacationing in the Daytona Beach area will find that it is home to other Best of Florida award-winning attractions. In the Best-Looking Lighthouse category, Ponce de Leon Inlet Lighthouse received top honors.
The beaches in the Daytona Beach area are always open and free to pedestrians. Cars are allowed on the beach from sunrise to sunset if tidal conditions permit. During December and January the $5 beach access fee for vehicles is waived.
